Fleming, Ph.D., is a Professor of the Practice of Spatial Sciences in the Spatial Sciences Institute at the University of Southern California Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and a Professor with the USC Institute for Creative Technologies, the university’s Department of Defense-sponsored University Affiliated Research Center (UARC). Steve Fleming served as a Colonel in the U.S. Army with command and staff experience in short-range air defense operations at the battalion, brigade and division levels.His research and teaching expertise is in: (1) applications of geospatial technologies for national defense (military operations, homeland security, and disaster management); (2) emerging terrestrial, airborne and space-based image collection systems; (3) online, blended education/training using mobile devices; and (4) dynamic mapping of coastal regions. |
Associate Professor of the Practice of Spatial Sciences and Institute for Creative Technologies Andrew J. Marx is an associate professor of the practice of Spatial Sciences at the Spatial Sciences Institute of the University of Southern California Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. He also is an associate professor with the USC Institute for Creative Technologies, the university’s Department of Defense-sponsored University Affiliated Research Center (UARC). Throughout his academic and professional career, he has focused on improving the uses of satellite, aerial and (unmanned aerial system) imagery to inform domestic and international public policy. His research interests include digital image processing imagery and algorithm development in ENVI IDL and Esri ArcPy; and spatial data analysis and visualization of spatiotemporal “big” data in Python and IDL programming environments. Andrew previously served as a foreign affairs analyst at the U.S. Department of State, a research fellow at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Center for the Prevention of Genocide and an officer in the U.S. Air Force.
